In the heart of the momentous city Jbeil, and on the fence of the historic Byblos, there lies the main wall of a restaurant recognized not only for its delicious menu, but also for the respect it pays to the antiquity of the city.
What is 1188? “It is a date specific to Jbeil, marked by an alternation of periods of war and peace between Saladin and the Crusades.” The owner of the restaurant has decided to maintain this historical connection through its name, design, and display. This very unique restaurant used to be a horse stable, then a house, and now it’s “1188”.
1188 has a very cozy and romantic indoor setting that can digest up to 50 persons seated in a quite private environment. It also has an 18 meter well covered by glass; a well which people used to utilize a long time ago to extract water. The restaurant also has a garden and a terrace overlooking Byblos streets, where you can enjoy the outdoor view while grabbing your favorite French platter.
Byblos, this city which is known as being the oldest continuously inhabited city in the world, is now one of the most visited touristic sites in Lebanon. It is a modern town with an ancient heart. The key to its continuity is places like 1188 which preserves its tradition, yet serves the people with sophistication and class.
It is simply not to be missed…
