With an astonishing two million views in just two days the combination of Lebanese-American vocalist Mayssa Karaa and top Indian music director, songwriter, and producer AR Rahman seem a perfect match, in Karaa's latest release, the song "Hayati". Fusing rap, Arabic vocals, and Indian melodies the song is featured in the new hit Bollywood movie "Chekka Chivantha Vaanam", a film produced by one of the biggest Indian producers Mani Ratnam. The rap verse on the song features rising star Shivang Vaishnav and the song has been released by Sony India.
Rahman's music for 2008's "Slumdog Millionaire" won a Golden Globe and two Academy Awards, and the song "Jai Ho" from its soundtrack was internationally successful.
Karaa commented on having the chance to work with Rahman, "He is one of the most talented artists I have ever met - and I love the fusion he creates between Indian traditional and contemporary music, which is very similar to the concept behind my music, a blend of contemporary and Arabic traditional music. I'm Looking forward to the release of our next collaboration."
That work has already begun, with the news the talented and beautiful Lebanese-American cross-cultural artist is working on a new project with AR Rahman already featuring one of her original songs.
No stranger to Hollywood soundtrack success Karaa's adapted version of the classic-American Jefferson Airplane song "White Rabbit" was featured on the Grammy-nominated soundtrack for the popular movie "American Hustle".
"Chekka Chivantha Vaanam" ("Crimson Red Sky" in English) was released on September 27th, 2018. It's an exciting Tamil-language crime film that tells the tale of a bloody war for power that breaks out between three brothers all trying to take over the lucrative family business, following a failed assassination attempt, and later death of their father, who revealed he knew that one of his sons was behind the attempt on his life before he died, without naming his name.
