A screening of the new Mark Wahlberg movie Deepwater Horizon at Grand Cinemas Ashrafieh for the benefit of the Lebanese Association for Hemophilia, co-organized by Novo Nordisk, was attended by hundreds, helping to raise funds for people living with the rare and predominantly genetic bleeding disorder, characterized by either a partial or complete lack of a clotting factor causing abnormally lengthy bleeding.

"The daily struggles of people living with Hemophilia entail a special kind of vigilance that those of us who don't have to manage the condition cannot begin to relate to," explained Dr. Peter Noun, Pediatric Hematologist Oncologist, Head of pediatrics department - Lebanese Hospital Geetawi. "The slightest bruise can degenerate into a major issue causing pain and mobility problems unless treated quickly."

The event is the latest in series of long-standing collaborations between the Lebanese Association for Hemophilia and Novo Nordisk in Lebanon, stretching back to 2008 and covering a number of activities to raise awareness of the disorder across the country, enhance fundraising for patient care through the Bleeding Voices concert series, and boost access to medication for people living with hemophilia.

"We chose a film about everyday heroes, because that's what people living with Hemophilia are - overcoming regular obstacles that would significantly hinder their lives if they don't remain vigilant," explained Solange Sakr, President of the Lebanese Association for Hemophilia, who provided an overview of the bleeding disorder and thanked all attendees.Deepwater Horizon is based on the 2010 Deepwater Horizon explosion and oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, which killed 11 people and caused extensive environmental damage.

"We have been working closely with the Lebanese Association for Hemophilia over the years because Novo Nordisk is committed to Changing Hemophilia," said Efstathios Psimmenos, Novo Nordisk Lebanon General Manager. "In addition to our extensive research in the field, and the treatment options we offer, we are always eager to develop and support fun and innovative activities that can raise awareness of the disorder and enhance the lives of people living with it."

We strive to always support the community and patrons with unique activities," said Carly Ramia Habis, co-owner and marketing director at Grand Cinemas, where the event was held. "The tie up with the Lebanese Association for Hemophilia gave us the opportunity to stand out from the crowd and showcase goodwill that combines love and caring to the Lebanese community."
