For the fifth consecutive year, Alfa,managed by Orascom Telecom, organized a series of activities to mark the International Girls in ICT Day, the global initiative supported by the International Telecommunications Union (ITU). The company welcomed a delegation of female students from several Lebanese schools during a day filled with talks and tours in its headquarters, as well as competitions related to the data and tech sector.Alfa is seeking through this initiative to encourage girls who are about to start university to pursue studies in the ICT field by briefing them about the various employment opportunities available to them.
For the first time in the Middle East, Lebanon and Alfa were selected to participate in a live broadcast that saw the participation ofITU officials, ambassadors from countries partaking in the initiative, and students participating in the events organized by ITU in Switzerland and Lithuania and by Alfa in Lebanon. The live broadcast included speeches by ITU Deputy Secretary-General Malcolm Johnson, the Head of the Permanent Mission of Lebanon to International Organizations in Geneva Ambassador Najla Riachi Assaker, the Head of the Permanent Mission of Lithuania to International Organizations in Geneva Ambassador AndriusKrivas, andthe Director of the ITU Telecommunication Development Bureau (BDT)BrahimaSanou. Students from the three countries also participated in a competition, in which a student from Lebanon ranked second.
