On July 22nd, L'Oréal Citizen Day brought together almost 200 employees from L'Oréal Levant, the group's subsidiary in Lebanon. Since its creation in 2009, this annual day of solidarity has become a symbol of generosity and engagement, allowing employees from around the world to commit to causes of public interest and to act for the betterment of society and vulnerable communities.
In 2015 more than 25,000 employees in 62 countries took part in charitable activities focusing on the five Citizen Day themes: Fighting against precarious situations, disability, environment, acting for employment and intergenerational sharing. The number of those taking part continues to climb, with participation up by 39% over the last three editions, and 420 organizations benefiting.
For the 2016 edition of L'Oréal Citizen Day in Lebanon, almost all L'Oréal Levant employees concretely worked on the ground in Taanayel to the benefit of arcenciel, which has been working since 1985 with and for all people in difficulty for the sustainable development of society.
According to Philippe Patsalides, General Manager of L'Oréal Levant, "This 7th edition offers an opportunity for every employee of L'Oréal Levant to become an actor of citizen involvement. All together, we can have a positive impact on the society in general, and in Lebanon in particular. It's motivating for employees and useful for local communities, who need our help more than ever. "
While some employees were taking care of young struggling students through fun and entertaining activities, others helped perpetuate an old Lebanese tradition of making bricks from straw, water and earth, in order to build a new environmentally friendly educational farm. Other activities have enabled employees to help restore the walls of the center, and the paths of the park that will welcome thousands of tourists throughout the year; or to plant varieties of flora that will ensure the biodiversity of the place.
For Pierre Issa, Co-founder of the Association arcenciel "Seeing the enthusiasm and commitment of all the participants of the 7th edition of L'Oréal Citizen Day, we are sure that they will all become actors of sustainable development, by being green and fair in their everyday lives, both professional and private."
Because employees are the best ambassadors of a company, an Instagram account was created @lorealcitizenday so they can proudly share their citizenship and solidarity experience on social networks with the hashtag #CitizenDay.
