Under the high patronage and in the presence of H.E the Minister of Tourism, Mr. Michel Pharaon, Sebamed hosted an edutainment awareness conference about infantile atopic dermatitis (also known as infantile eczema) on Friday, March 6th 2015 at KidzMondo - Beirut Waterfront. At this occasion, H.E. Mr. Michel Pharaon, officially inaugurated the previously opened Sebamed’s establishment at KidzMondo where Kidizens can receive a full training about safety and the important items that should be available in any first aid kit.

This conference falls in line with Sebamed’s primary focus on educating the public in general and the young generation in particular about skin care and how to avoid or treat skin disorders. It was presented by Dr. Rony Sayyad, MD (pediatrician) and tailored to raise awareness among pharmacists and media representatives specifically about the different causes of this skin disorder among toddlers and children as well as the approaches to treatment by highlighting and explaining the important role played by skin care products with the appropriate pH 5.5 value in protecting the child's sensitive skin.

Atopic dermatitis is a chronically, relapsing, non-contagious and itchy skin disorder that affects all ages, yet typically, symptoms appear in early childhood (in babies between two to six months of age) and disappear around six years of age. Surveys conducted by the worldwide eczema association reveal that about 1 out of every 10 kids develops eczema.

Hence, Dr. Sayyad stressed that “it is a must that mothers should be thoroughly informed about the causes and the treatment methods”. He also pinpointed that “flare-ups and rashes can be prevented or improved by avoiding all the potential environmental and allergens triggers, specially bathing using cleansing and care products that match the skin’s natural pH value5.5, and medications to help relief itchiness. Antibiotics (either by mouth or topically) may be needed if infections develop.

Following the lecture, pharmacists who came accompanied with their kids attended the first aid training at Sebamed’s pharmacy and had also the opportunity to learn more about the different professions showcased at KidzMondo.
