The polluted beaches of Lebanon are no news to us residents, we have been aware of the harmful conditions for quite some time now, and it is the result of some careless actions over the years. We do respect the studies being done, the efforts being made to raise awareness and clean Lebanon’s shores, and the public being careful not to go into questionable water. However we would like to highlight the fact that our country has some of the best resorts who take costly and effective measures to clean their water so that their guests can enjoy a safe swim. This isn’t the case for private resorts only, however many public beaches in North and South of Lebanon have the clearest safe and blue water where people can enjoy their summers with no worries. AUB Environmental Health, Safety and Risk Management has made public a report showing studies made on its surroundings verifying its safety for swimming based on samples taken on July 4 2018, and we are hoping that more reports would be shared to confirm to beach goers that there are many safe places to swim. We do not deny that some areas are heavily polluted especially those next to sewers and garbage, but we also do wish that a little care be taken before generalizing and spreading rumors on otherwise clean beaches to avoid needless panic.
