8 Things You Didn’t Know The Use For
(Did you know?) 7 years ago

Most of us use our regular household items without paying too much attention to them. What you may not know is that some household items have symbols or little tricks to them that can actually make your life a lot easier.

So, the next time you’re using one of the items on this list, use one of these tricks and you’ll find they make everything just a little more simple.

1. Take a look at any of your makeup products. You’ll notice a symbol that resembles a little container. Inside of the container symbol, you’ll also notice a  “6M”, “12M” or “24M” written beside it.

The numbers stand for the shelf life of your makeup. This is a great way to make sure that you’re not using expired products on your precious skin.

2. If you have one of the newer iPhones, pick it up right now. Turn it over and look at the camera lens. You’ll notice a small black hole between the lens and the flash. If you ever noticed it and wondered what it’s there for, here’s a useful tidbit of information for you: the black hole is actually a microphone.

The microphone helps capture the audio better when you’re recording a video and also improves the quality of sound on FaceTime. It also reduces any noise that the main microphone may grab.

3. Have you ever noticed what looks like a metal plate on your stapler? Well, this plate can actually be used to bend the staples outwards. All you have to do to use it is rotate the plate on the bottom of the stapler.

This helps to pin the staple (which temporarily fastens paper together). This way you don’t even have to use a staple remover to remove any staples, all you have have to do is pull the staple out with your fingers.

4.  Have you ever noticed that Heinz Ketchup bottles have the number “57” on them? Well, they do, and this is because the location of the number is actually considered the “sweet spot” of the bottle.

The sweet spot refers to the part of the bottle that you tap (or in my case, hit) when you’re struggling to get the ketchup out.

5. If you’re as obsessed with sweets , you’ve probably noticed at some point in your life that there is a hole on the end of almost every lollipop stick you’ve ever had.

Well, the holes are actually there for a reason. They are designed to allow a little bit of the candy to melt into the hole. This helps the candy on the lollipop hold more firmly onto the stick.

6. Most plastic containers have symbols on them. They are typically on takeout containers or plastic Tupperware. The symbols represent what type of plastic the containers are, and are also recycling symbols.

There are 7 types of plastic, and the symbol represents which type of plastic the container is. The other symbol found on the bottom of plastic packages also tells you whether the plastic is safe to use in the microwave or the dishwasher.

7. Most people think that the little plastic ring that is wrapped under the cap of a bottle helps to avoid spillage or leakage. While this does help with some bottles that can be closed, it doesn’t help with bottles that can’t be re-closed like beer bottles.

It turns out that the plastic is there to help hold the gases of the liquid inside so that it doesn’t go flat.

8.  Most headphone jacks have two lines on it. These lines are responsible for leading the wires to both the right and the left speaker.

Without these two lines, you would only be able to hear out of one ear.
