George has joined other celebrities - like Ellen DeGeneres, Seth Meyers, Paul Rudd and Jake Gyllenhaal - in support of eBay for Charity's auction for Home For Our Troops (live from Nov 5 to 15), a charitable organization that builds and donates custom homes for severely injured veterans. Fans of their favourite stars are able to bet on amazing prizes, like sneakers signed by Ellen, lunch for two with Paul and a photo opportunity with Seth, all in honour of the people who serve their country. And, of course, motorcycle aficionados and fans of George memorabilia can fork over $25,000 for a bike and a noble donation.
On July 10, the father of two was rushed to the hospital by ambulance when his scooter crashed head-on into a car in Sardinia, Italy, where he was filming his upcoming TV show, Catch-22. Luckily, the 57-year-old came away from the accident relatively unscathed, aside from a minor knee injury, and was promptly discharged.
While parting with his beloved motorcycle was likely a tough decision, the way he's chosen to do it is definitely not uncharacteristic of the Hail, Caesar! star, who is known for his charitable and philanthropic work. He and his wife Amal, a well-known human rights lawyer, focus their work on humanitarian aid and global development, like through their commitment to stop genocide in Sudan with Not On Our Watch, as well as his advocacy work in Darfur. Six years ago, the star even auctioned off his 2008 Tesla Roadster, which proceeds going towards supporting causes in Sudan. George has also sat on the board of trustees for United Way, and he and Amal started their own foundation - the Clooney Foundation for Justice - which advocates on behalf of refugees, victims of hate crimes and those suffering under oppressive governments. They're definitely setting a wonderful example for their one-year-old twins, Ella and Alexander!
