Lebanon ranks first overpassing all of the European countries as well as Japan, South Korea, United States, Australia and Singapore for the number of train accidents. Yes. You read correctly. Lebanon has reported 0 train accidents over the past 30 years and therefore ranking as first in the entire world.
All jokes aside... Thanks to the funny image provided by the Lebanese NGO Train Train. We would like to highlight on the fact that the railways association despite being closed down since the civil war back in 1975 still gets paid their salaries at the beginning of every month for doing nothing other than sitting around talking about the good old days at the old broken leftover train stations.
The Lebanese NGO Train Train has for the last seven years been working to not only preserve the railway heritage but to put pressure on the authorities to reinstate the railways as a mode of transportation. The organization, founded by documentary-maker Elias Maalouf, includes engineers, urban planners, train enthusiasts, and members of the public who firmly believe in the enormous benefits the railways could bring to modern Lebanon.
Train stations could empact sustainability in our transportation if only it were implemented. With today's modern technology, that would allow for more people to use public transportation and traffic would obviously decrease. It's really unfortunate that Lebanon is being inefficient in this way as well. It is a dream to see the restoration of the Lebanese railways.
