Entertainment has historically transcended boundaries, connecting people who share a common love for an art or song. Similarly, Arab celebrities have united the Arab diaspora that is spread across the globe today.
Today Arab stars' concerts are a full house while their films have opened to much acclaim. There have been many Hollywood productions starring Arab actors in key roles. Keeping the popularity of these Arab artists and stars in mind, Forbes Middle East has compiled two lists namely Arab Celebrities on the Global Stage and Celebrities With Arab Roots.
In the list, celebrities are divided into several categories: singers, directors, fashion designers, actors, and footballers.
Celebrities in each category are ranked on a specific scale. Yet, only one singer got the #AllTimeGreat rank: Fairouz. She began her singing career in a chorus at Lebanon's public radio station. In 1952, she shot to stardom with the release of her first album Itab. Her songs have always been simple yet very deep and relatable to ever one of us.
Her melodies combined Arab and European instruments while her voice transcended boundaries to gather fans from Lebanon and from across the world, according to Virginia Danielson, an expert on Middle Eastern music at NYU Abu Dhabi.
Fairouz has sold more than 80 million records worldwide and performed on grand stages, including Royal Albert Hall in London, Carnegie Hall in New York and John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C.
The All Time Great ranking Fairouz got from Forbes Middle East is still.
