SAWA for Development and Aid and Kentara Foundation cordially invite you to attend «A Story Of Hope» A multi-talent performance by Syrian children, On the 28th of August, 2016 At Gulbenkian theatre in the Lebanese American University, Beirut Campus, at 6 p.m

What is the AVICENNA HARMONIC EDUCATION - APPROACH??

Avicenna(*) is a holistic approach to education for Knowledge, Wellbeing, and Prosperity through Self-Discovery and Collaboration.Its ultimate purpose is to support children's love and ability to learn by themselves through creative engagement with others and Nature. It is predicated on the ideas that:- the library of knowledge can be found by everyone within Nature by observation and engagement within and without- life long self learning is a crucial skill in a world of accelerating technological and organisational change- creativity, sharing experiences, and the ability to collaborate harmoniously with others and the environment is essential to building a happy and prosperous future.

Avicenna modules are interactive creative workshops curated by local animateurs.They are both rooted in the local environment/culture and open to the world through empathetic human mediation, and with the help of communication technologies.

Workshops are structured around the senses of Sound (Music), Sight (Art) and Motion (Sport) and the study of natural laws (Science) with the power of modern tools (Technology).

The SAWA-AVICENNA HARMONIC EDUCATION PROGRAM

Two friends, Nigel Osborne and Driss Ben-Brahim ( Founder of Kentara Foundation) wished to make a contribution in support of the Syrian Refugee community in the Middle East.As they frequently discussed their shared passion for Music, Therapy/Wellbeing and the potential for a holistic and harmonic approach to education they designed the Avicenna Approach.

Crucially, the success of an avicenna program could only be build in close collaboration with a reliable, dynamic, and creative grassroots organisation.

After much investigation, they had the good luck of meeting Dr.Rouba Mhaissenn (founder of Sawa) in England in Spring 2015, who embraced the approach wholeheartedly.

Dr.Rouba dedicated precious time, energy and the outstanding talent of her organisation on the ground to make the program possible and successful.

Prof.Nigel provided regular year-long support on the ground in Bar-Elias, performing master classes, interviewing/training/mentoring talented animators and documenting the approach.

Kentara Foundation provided full funding for the 2015-2016 program (wages, rental, equipments, travel, events).

THE FUTURE
The program is flourishing with the active engagement and ownership of the community under the leadership of the Sawa Team.It is attracting interest and support from a number of international charitable organisations and donors.It will allow Sawa to deepen and scale its impact on the communities it supports.

Our sincere appreciation foes to the Lebanese American University for offering Gulbenkian Theatre, Lau completly free of charge for this event. LAU, making dreams come true, as always.
